At SPTM Big Local, our mission has always been to make St. Peter’s and The Moors a great place to live and work. Do you love where you live? Here are some ideas on how you can get involved in your community and help it thrive.
Keep It Tidy
Litter is a growing problem around the UK. It can make our streets and green spaces look run down and uncared for. Not only that, statistics show that in places where there’s a lot of litter, there tends to be higher levels of crime.
Why not don some gloves, grab a litter picker, and get involved with one of our litter picks in Elmfield Park? We want our green spaces to be safe and attractive for everyone to enjoy, so why not do your bit? Litter picks are held on the third Saturday of every month from 11am until noon.

Have A Say
Being able to have a say in what happens in your local area can help you love where you live a lot more. Joining the SPTM Big Local partnership means you can have a say on things like what funding and grants are spent on locally. Having local people on board means that we can really meet the needs of the community.
Meet New People
In the past few years, many people were left feeling isolated because of the lockdowns. Now that the pandemic is in the rear view mirror, gathering together as a community feels even more important. The good news is that in St. Peter’s and The Moors, there are so many chances to do that.
Why not come along to our coffee mornings on Thursdays, starting 23rd February? Everyone is welcome at Gas Green Youth and Community Centre from 10am-12 starting 23rd February for a cuppa, cake, and a chat.
If you prefer something outdoorsy, The Community Rest Garden is also open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9.30am-1pm. Get stuck in with some gardening, or just rest in nature and watch the world go by.
Try Some Local Activities
Trying some local activities can help you and others love where you live. There’s plenty going on in the local area. In the February half-term, Vicky from VJH Ceramics is hosting a family pottery workshop. Come along to Gas Green on Wednesday 22nd February from 1-2.30pm and trying your hand at making and decorating a pottery piece.
February is the month of love, and love can come in many forms, including loving your community!
