If you’ve been following our social media, you might have seen that our community book, ‘Reflections on a Pandemic’ has been published and is ready for sale! After months of collecting pieces of writing and art for the book, editing, and proofreading, it’s finally here.

The book is a collection of stories, poems, and art that reflect the experiences of our community during the pandemic. From the experiences of a teacher, to appreciating a simpler life, and even starting a new life-long friendship, it’s all in here and more.

We produced this book for a few reasons;

  • We wanted people to have something to look back on, to remember and appreciate that very strange time.
  • We wanted to give local people an opportunity to express their creativity and give them a voice.
  • We wanted to produce something that could be sold to raise funds for the community.

If you want to buy a copy, you can get one from the SPTM Big Local office at Gas Green Youth and Community Centre. They’ll also be on sale at Big Local events. Get in touch with Kelly on 07879113748 or Ali on 07864721616 to reserve your copy.

Meet Our Lovely Community Book Contributors

We wanted to give all our lovely contributors the chance to get the first glimpse of the book so we invited them all to a little celebration at Gas Green. There was plenty of tea and cake to be had, and everyone shared a little bit about what they had written about. It was great to see how the book had brought people in the community together who might never have met.

Community Cook Book-Would you Like to Be Involved?

Sales of ‘Reflections on a Pandemic’ will go towards funding our next community project, and we’d love you to get involved!

We want to produce a community cookbook which will be a celebration of different cultures and traditions, as well as a collection of recipes focused on reducing food waste and recipes that bring back memories. Food brings people together, and we want to share those lovely stories.

Our Reduce Waste Food and Our Reduce Waste Great Taste Cooking Projects have had such an impact on the community and now we’d love to put together a book that reflects how important food is to all of us in our own way.

We’re looking for some food lovers in the community who want to be part of an action group who’ll help put the book together. You’ll decide on what recipes should go in, the themes of different sections of the book, how it will look, and more.

If you want to be part of the action group, get in touch with Kelly 07879113748 or Ali 07864721616 .

We’ll be putting a call out on social media for submissions soon…now’s the time to start digging out your beloved recipes! If you have just the recipe you’d love to share, send it to sptmcommunitybooks@gmail.com
