Food brings us together. It can be a treat, it can conjure up memories, and it provides the energy and nutrients we need to stay healthy. These are just a few of the reasons why we want to create a Big Local Recipe Book for the community-and we’d love you to contribute.
Why we’re creating a community recipe book
In recent years, we’ve had the pandemic and a cost of living crisis which is still ongoing. We’ve responded by setting up initiatives like the food project, Reduce Waste Great Taste sessions, and cookery sessions with Cooking with Josie, which have helped local families get access to the essentials they need, as well as providing cooking activities for kids in the school holidays.
So you could say that food has been a pretty big focus for us, and now we want to create a Big Local recipe book to celebrate the food we all love that brings us together. We’d love you to send us a recipe that means something to you.
What kind of recipes do we want?
We want recipes that fit the following categories:
Family recipes
What do the kids love? What is your go-to midweek meal, or simple but delicious family favourite that makes everyone clear their plates?
Cooking on a budget
With the cost of food still so high, we’ve all had to make our budgets stretch that much further. Do you have a recipe that uses minimal ingredients or that’s great for making in bulk and keeping in the freezer? Share it with us.
Healthy eating
What’s your favourite healthy meal? We’d love you to send us a recipe that makes you feel virtuous just by eating it. Does it include plenty of veg, wholegrains, protein, and healthy fats? Send us your favourite well-balanced dishes.
International
Is your favourite dish something international? Maybe you love cooking things that represent your heritage and you’d love to share them with others. We can’t wait to try them out!
Seasonal foods
A yummy Christmas cake. A fun Halloween treat. Easter buns. Send us your seasonal recipes from your favourite time of the year.
Treats and desserts
Who doesn’t love a treat every now and then? From gooey brownies to puddings to die for, we can’t wait to see your favourite indulgent treats and desserts.
If you have a recipe you would like to share and you would like it to be published in the Big Local recipe book, please email Michelle at sptmcommunitybooks@gmail.com for instructions on how to submit your recipe.
