A Christmas Fayre and Festive Fun: December in St. Peter’s and The Moors

Christmas is coming and we’re delighted to say we’re holding our Christmas Fayre this year at Gas Green. As well as plenty of fun activities and delicious cakes, there’ll be some lovely stalls full of goodies being sold by local vendors.

Meet Vicky

One of those vendors is the wonderful Vicky Hendzel-Walker who I’m sure you all recognise as a regular at Gas Green. Vicky runs some amazing ceramics workshops and she brings so much to Big Local and the residents of St. Peter’s and The Moors. We spoke to her about how she got involved with Big Local, how her workshops benefit the community, and her upcoming activities.

How long have you been doing ceramics and how did you get into it?

I’ve been making my own ceramics pieces on and off for nearly 30 years. I first tried out ceramics when I joined a general art and craft course, just after I left school. I found that I really enjoyed working with clay, so I went on to do a ceramics degree.

How did you get into teaching ceramics?

After working with a number of different organisations, plus making my own ceramics, people started showing an interest in how to make ceramics.  I started teaching different groups through Cirencester College where I did my teaching qualification.

What do you think that people in your workshops like most about doing ceramics? How do you think they benefit the local community?

People love the social aspect of the workshops, as well as being involved with the process, watching the clay turn into ceramics, and learning the different decorative techniques.

How long have you been involved with SPTM Big Local?

I have been involved with SPTM Big local for the past year, doing different clay activities for local families.

How do you feel about being involved with this year’s Christmas Fayre?

I’m really looking forward to it!

What kind of things are you going to be selling at the fayre?

A mix of ceramics and mosaics pieces, from functional to decorative Christmas pieces. Plus, I’m going to be doing a little Christmas activity for the children to go home with.

Are there any upcoming ceramic workshops that you want to tell people about?

I run two workshops at Gas Green; Mosaics on a Monday afternoon and Pottery on Wednesday mornings.

I’m also really excited to be doing some Mosaic panels for the Tewkesbury Road Rest Garden.

Our Winter Wonderland is CANCELLED

As many of you know, we were due to hold our free Winter Wonderland event in the Community Rest Garden on Monday 20th December from 4-5.30pm. Sadly, we have made the difficult decision to cancel it due to the increase in daily infections in the area. We know that lots of you signed up, but let's hope we can do it next year and make it even more special than we had hoped!

This is all our last blog before Christmas, so we at SPTM Big Local would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and involvement this past year. We couldn’t have done any of it without you!

Wishing you all a healthy and happy Christmas and New Year.
