Big Local Fun on the Green!

Sixty people joined us for the Big Local Fun on the Green event between St Peter’s Close and Tewkesbury Road in the Moors estate, Cheltenham, from 11.30am to 3pm on Saturday 23 May 2015. There was free food and drink, live music, bouncy castles, drawing, badge-making, and seedling planting for everyone to enjoy. The event gave residents the opportunity to join the Big Local volunteering programme, meet their neighbours, and shape what goes on in the St Peter’s and The Moors neighbourhood.

Naif Pierre, Big Local Project Coordinator, said: “It was amazing to see the strong sense of community in the area. We had a number of volunteers take the initiative and support the event by sharing views, residents have taken the steps to make the area a cleaner, greener, safer place to live, with more things to do and places to go.”

Cllr John Rawson, cabinet member for finance, said: “This is one of several Big Local events that will take place over the summer in St Peter’s and the Moors, this event successfully helped build a sense of pride and ownership over the shared spaces in the area.”

The event was also organised by Caroline Bell, Business Connector for Business In the Community, seconded from Lloyds Banking Group who helped to organise the event. She worked with the local Greggs and Booker stores who donated refreshments, as well as Gotherington Nursery and The Butterfly Garden who gave plants and gardening materials.

We are grateful to them for their support to the local community.
